The League of Women Voters of Frederick County plans to host live, virtual candidate forums in April. These forums will continue the League's longstanding tradition of offering nonpartisan election information to help voters make informed decisions at the ballot box.

The candidates are running in two races that will appear on the ballot for the 2024 election cycle. You can find important dates for the 2024 election HERE on the LWVMD website.

Scheduled Forums

All forums will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and will be available for live viewing on the LWV Frederick County’s YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@frederickcountylwv313/streams

These forums will be recorded and available for later viewing on the LWV Frederick County Youtube channel, Facebook page, and main website

Except for School Board candidates, the League will only invite candidates from the Democratic or Republican parties to participate to the primary election candidate forums, as candidates from other parties will not appear on the primary ballot. The Board of Education election is nonpartisan. Any registered voter in Frederick County - regardless of party affiliation - may vote for the School Board.

Board of Education: April 25th and April 30th

There are 17 candidates running for three (3) open School Board seats. The League will divide the candidates into two groups alphabetically and will host half of the candidates at each of the two scheduled forums.

U.S. Congress, District 6: April 11th, 16th, 18th, and 23rd

The League will split the 16 Democratic candidates alphabetically into forums on April 11, 16 and 23. The League will host the seven Republican candidates in a forum on April 18.

Moderators:

Dr. Betty Mayfield - Hood College professor emerita of mathematics

Dr. Michael Powell - Judge on the Frederick County Orphans’ Court, and a retired professor of History/Political Science.

Drs. Mayfield and Powell will ask each candidate a wide range of policy questions in random order, providing voters valuable insight that will help them decide which candidates should earn their vote.
