You’ve heard it all before (mostly from us) that, as a Maryland voter, you must show up to vote in the primary. But with a 27% voter turnout rate in primaries, we’re going to say it again. All too often, when we go out in the community and hear that people don’t know when the primaries are happening or worse, that they don’t feel like there’s a point in voting.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the League believes all voting is important! When you sit out the election, any election, you give up your voice in the process. Frustrated with the lack of representation on the ballot - vote! Concerned that your top priorities aren’t being addressed - vote! It sounds simple, but

Do you know who is on your ballot? Do you know what the office they’re running for does?

This year, you might not be voting on the President, but the offices are just as, if not more so, important to your everyday lives. A few of these offices include State Delegate and Senator, Comptroller, Central Committee members, and, of course, Governor!

If you have concerns about taxes, education, housing prices, and the job market, you need to vote in the primaries!

Below is a flyer explaining why LWVMD thinks it’s important to vote in the primaries. It’s not an all-inclusive list, but our top reasons.
