ACTION ALERT on REDISTRICTING! Please contact your MD legislators (http://mdelect.net/) and tell them that the map that was released by the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Committee transformed relatively minor population increases and decreases throughout the state into major shifts of population from district to district. As presented, the map may adversely affect the voting strength of racial minority populations in several instances in contradiction to the federal Voting Rights Act. Urge your legislators to vote only for maps that do not dilute voting strength of minority voters and that create logical districts that offer the opportunity for voters to elect representatives that fairly represent the interests of their constituents.

Although actual costs associated with the recent Primary Elections won't be out until after Nov. We know this much: There is $3.6 million BUDGETED for this year's City Primary and General Election. Assuming the same number of polling places, machines, etc. for both, that's $1.8 million per election. 7,815 people voted in the early elections, another 1,853 by absentee ballot, and 73,962 showed up at the polls for a total of 83,630 votes cast. Only 25.7% of the eligible electorate. This represented a cost of - get THIS - $22 PER VOTE. And it will be even higher in the general election when even less people show up. It's time to combine our City Elections with the Gubernatorial Election process Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the city could sure use another $3.6 million.
