Co-Presidents Message

December 2007

Dear Members:

Please reserve space on your calendars for our next membership meeting –

Wednesday, January 9th.  The meeting will be a discussion of our local priorities

related to the 2008 State Legislative Session that begins in January.  This is one

of our most important meetings of

the year, since we use this time to decide what issues we’d like the MD League

to address in with state senators and delegates. You should have received an

email copy of the new brochure Legislative and Budget Priorities for 2008 from

MD LWV within the last two weeks or so.  If not, let me know and I can email

or snail mails you a copy.  See the Membership Meeting article elsewhere in

this newsletter for more information about the meeting  January 9th.

Join us for a selection of soups, salads and desserts before the meeting –

it should be an experience to stimulate both your palate and frontal lobes.

Charter Home Rule is the big conversation topic in Washington County as

we gear up for the primary election on Feb 12th.   We’ll have a brief update

on the Charter Campaign at our January 9th membership meeting.  Bring any

questions you may have about the details of Charter language, the Charter

One Page Summary or Comparison Chart, yard signs or other ways to share

info with neighbors, friends and colleagues before the February election date.

Home Rule, of course, is a non-partisan issue outside party politics or affiliation.

As you know, per our League guidelines re: non-partisan activities, the

Washington County League has taken a position in support of the Charter

and Home Rule.  If you’d like copies of any of the materials mentioned above,

 please let me know.

Co-president Monda Sagalkin is traveling, visiting her son, so I am operating

without a partner as this newsletter goes to press.  I am sure she would join

me in wishing you a season of good cheer and spiritual renewal, with hopes

for a productive legislative session and good voter turnout in both 2008 elections.

Best Regards

Fanny Crawford and Monda Sagalkin, Co-Presidents
