President’s
Message
April and May are
fun League months. I’ve had the opportunity to attend several local
League annual meetings, and it fascinates me how each League has its own
personality. The highlight of each meeting for me is the President’s
report, which usually recounts the League’s accomplishments of the
year. Of course, many of these past year’s accomplishments were in the
area of voter service. And impressive these accomplishments were. But
I’m amazed at how many educational meetings for the public were
sponsored by Leagues, or fun League get-togethers were organized, or
trips taken or meetings held. It’s all very impressive.
Even as we look back
on recent accomplishments, we are looking forward to making future
plans. Gathering at our
Convention
in Western Maryland is going to be exciting. We will discuss,
debate and adopt studies and a budget, of course. But it’s also an
opportunity to welcome two new local Leagues to our family, to hear
Congressman Bartlett speak with us about energy, hear an update on the
LWVUS Immigration Study – to spur us to activity - and to just plain
have fun. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Janeen Grohsmeyer
and several of her tech-savvy cohorts lead us in a workshop about our
new web and email capabilities. If you’ve found yourself confused or
befuddled by our new technology, you will come to appreciate the “Janeen
of endless patience.”
I’m looking forward
to seeing many of you at Rocky Gap. |
