LWVMD's New Publication: Maryland Government: How it works. How to work it.
The League of Women Voters of Maryland (LWVMD) is introducing its bright new publication, Maryland Government: How it works. How to work it..
The attractive soft-covered booklet is an easy to read, comprehensive guide to Maryland's State government that explains how citizens can find the information they need to know about our State system of government, and it shows them how to influence our lawmakers and government agencies.
The book is divided into two sections. The first clearly explains the underpinning of Maryland government starting with its Constitution and the voters, continuing with an explanation of three major branches of government - executive, judicial and legislative --and on to local government. Part 2 explains what citizens need to know to advocate - or lobby - the government on issues that are of concern to them as individuals or to their organizations.
LWVMD President Lu Pierson, says, "The philosophy behind Maryland Government is that citizens must thoroughly understand the structure of the government before it is possible to promote their cherished positions. This publication puts both 'halves' together and will serve as a primer for all citizens. It is meant to educate Marylanders and to empower them."
