Our League Takes Action

The League takes action on national, state and local issues at the national, state and local government levels based on League positions after a thorough study, discussion and consensus process in which all members may participate.

LWVUS volunteers visit the United States Senatorial and Congressional offices at various times during the year to explain League positions on specific issues to their Senators and Congressional Representatives.

The League of Women Voters of Maryland plays a similar role at the State level testifying before the Maryland General Assembly, advocating our League positions.

Local Leagues monitor local government hearings and legislative sessions as well, testifying when an issue on which the League has taken a position is headed for action by government bodies (see below).

Our Strength Lies in Our Numbers!
The League's free online activist community has been very effective this year, sending tens of thousands of messages to Congress on important legislation. Still, some League members and allies need to be reminded that they can easily make a difference by signing up for the Grassroots Lobby Corps.

Join the National League's free online activist community and receive action alerts on important issues by email. Our online activists have sent more than 85,000 email messages to the 109th Congress! You too can make a difference by signing up today and making your voice heard. Because our strength lies in our numbers, we encourage you to ask friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to join you as online activists with the League.

Join the Marland State League's free online activist community.

Please check our Positions Page to see brief statements about each local position. For more detailed information call the LWVMC office.
