Message
from the President
The heat of summer is with us, but many tasks are
being accomplished all the same. Input from our members has provided our
calendar for the current year, and seen at least two efforts make progress.
Elsewhere in this issue of VOTER you will find a
report on the first meeting of our water study committee. Sandy Tracy, director for program, has
scheduled the next meeting for this study on Sept. 5 at the Harford Library
Aberdeen Branch. Water will become an
important factor as BRAC transfers from
Through the efforts of Sandy Tracy, Ron Henry, Carole
DeRan, Ann Hughes, Gail Isennock,
and Carole Conors (who brought the LWV banner) at the Big M flea market, our
League has also begun to achieve our goal of self-funding. The flea market netted us just over $50.00,
thanks to the donation of our participation fee by one of our members. Watch your email for future requests for flea
market items as we may participate in other similar events. Not only does this help raise needed funds,
it also gets the LWV's name before the public, and
offers an opportunity to register voters and potentially obtain more members.
Just after our next Board and Membership meeting on
Aug. 20, we have scheduled a voter registration with available information
booklets. This will take place at the
Edgewood Area of APG at a meeting of the MD Tri-county Chapter of Federally
Employed Women.
In September our meeting will include selecting
legislative priorities for the 2008 MD General Assembly, so while you enjoy
your summer fun, please think about what we need to propose as input to the
state league regarding priorities.
The pace of summer may be slower, but our brains
are just as active, so let's use this time to advance the plans we've selected
for the League year.
