Remember to register and vote! Someone died for that right! Encourage others to
register and vote!
For 87 years, The League of Women Voters has been committed to making democracy work
across the country and around the world. The League does whatever is necessary to protect
the right to vote, because it took over 70 years to achieve voting rights for women in America!
We continue to educate and encourage men and women to be active citizens and address the issues
that affect their daily lives such as- election administration reform, campaign finance reform, civil
and human rights, citizen engagement, judicial independence and criminal justice, education,
health care, urban sprawl and our natural resources.
The last twelve months were action packed with League accomplishments in Calvert County as we
fulfilled our mission- being a voice to inform citizens and an advocate of good government.
Programs included the Russian Visitors Project; Homeland Security and Disaster Preparation
Public Forum;Celebrity Fashion Show; Annual Legislative Evening with the Annapolis
Delegation;Public Forum on Social Security; International Women of the World Program
and Luncheon;Affordable/Workforce Housing Public Conference and Advocacy Of The
Year Award presented to the Calvert County League of Women Voters to name a few.
A new year is upon us and there will be no summer break for the League of Women Voters. Our
voter services agenda includes: Poll Evaluation Programs,Voter Guides, Candidates Forums
to be implemented before the primary and general elections. All are needed; this is a team effort.
In the words of LWVUS President Kay J.Maxwell-“ we are challenged to consider how we all
might do some things differently, while maintaining our core principle of nonpartisanship and
speaking with one voice.”
