Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, who was scheduled as luncheon speaker for our February 27 Legislative Day event, has notified us that he will be required to deliver testimony that day and will not be able to join us. However, we have a very special replacement: Gary D. Maynard, the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Mr. Maynard has been in this position since January 2007, and has an extensive and impressive resume of correctional experience, including top correctional positions in Iowa and South Carolina. He is the current president of the American Correctional Association. We’ve been told by the President of the Iowa LWV that he was a League friend and supporter in that state. I’m looking forward to an interesting talk and question and answer session with Mr. Maynard, and hope many of you will be with us to welcome him to Maryland.
