Baltimore Rally to Repeal the Death Penalty

(The following is provided by Maryland Citizens Against State Executions (MD CASE), the coalition of which LWVMD has been a member since we achieved consensus on repeal, and the subsequent adoption of repeal by LWVUS.) Baltimore Rally to Repeal the Death Penalty Saturday, November 17, 3:45 – 5 p.m. The death penalty is the ultimate, irreversible denial of human rights. By working towards the abolition of the death penalty worldwide, Amnesty International looks to end the cycle of violence created by a system riddled with economic and racial bias and tainted by human error. Maryland is in the unique position of being very close to abolishing the death penalty. In spring of 2007 we lost by only one vote. With strategic thinking and hard work, we are hoping that 2008 will be the year that Maryland will abolish the death penalty. To kick off a season of activism to abolish the death penalty, Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is teaming up with Maryland Citizens Against State Executions (MD CASE), the Baltimore Coalition Against the Death Penalty (BCAPD), and you to Rally Against the Death Penalty in front of Death Row. The special guest speakers will be; Shujaa Graham, exonerated from California’s death row; and Vicki Schieber, mother of a murder victim. The rally will start at the field on the corner of E. Madison St and Ensor St in Baltimore and will march from there to Death Row at 401 E. Madison St.
