submitted by Brook Thompson, executive assistant, LWVUS A three-part conversation to explore the impact that women are making on the political discussion and landscape in our country is being sponsored by LWVUS and the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum beginning this month in Washington. Entitled The Changing Faces of Power: Women in Politics, each panel in the series will feature authorities on gender issues, women who have valuable experience in the roles being examined, and experts who monitor political trends. The series will include historical context and current information to present a full picture of women’s political activism and leadership. Author and political commentator Eleanor Clift will moderate each forum. The kick-off event will be held Wednesday, November 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum, 144 Constitution Avenue NE (corner of 2nd and Constitution NE). Panelists are Connie Morella, former member of Congress; Ilana Goldman, president of the Women’s Campaign Fund; and Karen O’Connor, founder and director of the Women in Politics Institute at American University. The second and third forums are scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, on “Women As Office Holders”; and Tuesday, March 25, on “Women As Voters and Activists”. The series, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Barbara Lee Family Foundation, with additional support from Kraft Foods.
