GUNS

GUNS Two bills have been filed to date dealing with handguns and other firearms. LWVMD has a general position in favor of gun control. HB 2 (Riley) Public Safety – Handgun Permits – Repeal of Finding Requirements would amend a list of requirements for the issuance of a permit to carry a handgun by the Secretary of the State Police, to eliminate a finding “that a person has a good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun.” Assigned to the Judiciary Committee it was scheduled for hearing January 22. HB 22 (Manno) Crimes – Possession of Firearm While in Possession of Certain Controlled Dangerous Substances – Penalties would prohibit a person from knowingly and intentionally possessing or transporting a firearm while simultaneously possessing specified controlled substances. This bill is also assigned to the Judiciary Committee with a January 22 hearing. Marcia Reinke
